A night in… the Gold Coast, Australia
THE Gold Coast in Queensland has established itself as one of the most popular getaways in Australia. It is a favourite with all age groups ranging from children to the retired. It is one of those destinations where you can be exhilarated with a packed schedule or bask in the sun whilst admiring the sound of gushing waves.
I’ve Just Arrived…
The highlight of Gold Coast is Surfers Paradise. Adorned by its gorgeous beach, the location is also home to bars, restaurants, nightclubs and shopping. Adrenaline junkies looking for a little thrill can indulge in water sports such as jet skiing, and paragliding. Also the theme parks are a hub for a great deal of excitement for children and adults alike.
What’s The Best Way To Get Around?
Hire a car. Since a number of the attractions are away from the city centre, it gives tourists more flexibility in their schedule. If driving is not an option taxis are available by calling 131 008. The other mode of transportation is buses, which is efficient as well. Check out www.surfside.com.au for complete details
Where To Stay?
Unless you have hired a car, it is highly recommended to stay in the city centre as it is closer to modes of public transport and a lot can be done on foot as well.

What’s For Dinner?
Costa Doro: Located in the heart of Surfers Paradise, this restaurant offers authentic Italian food moderately priced with main dishes between $21-$35 and entrees approximately $15. Menu includes pizzas, pastas, risottos and parmiggiana amongst others. It is a great place to relish a meal whilst sitting outdoors on the sidewalk seating. There is also an air-conditioned room indoors of you want to avoid the summer heat.
Absynthe: This exquisite French Restaurant is a perfect example of fine dining. Set up on Surfers Paradise, it offers exotic dishes such as Confit Rabbit Leg to Burgundy Style Escargots and a wide range of seafood including lobsters. The dishes range from $40-$50 and desserts are $25.
Cheap Eats: There are plenty of places to drop in for a quick inexpensive meal that is below $15. Besides the obvious choices of a Mc Donalds or Hungry Jacks, there are places such My Noodle Bowl and Amimoto that serve fresh Asian cuisine. Also there is New Mexico Restaurant and Tandoori Place that offer a good value for money by providing quality food at affordable rates.
I Need A Drink…
Head to Shooters and enjoy a night of music, dance and alcohol. One of the longest running and most successful clubs in Gold Coast, Shooters has four rooms. Rendezvous is a private lounge for members; there is a room for R&B music, Electro music and a MyBar offering sexy R&B and Old Skool. The intoxicating ambience leads to a night of energy and oomph. However, Shooters is a pricy affair because of its entrance fees and expensive drinks. For a cheaper option it is best to stroll through Surfers Paradise, as there are innumerable bars with less expensive cocktails, especially during Happy Hour.
As mentioned, exploring Surfers Paradise should be top on the list. However, if you are looking for a more active experience it may be worth heading out to the illustrious theme parks. Movie World, Dream World and Wet n Wild is a haven of rides and shows. To survive some of these rides you really do need to be thick-skinned and rather gallant. My recommendations are the Superman Ride at Movie World and the Tower of Terror II at Dream World for literally a breathtaking experience. Sea World is great for admiring the species of the ocean and learning more about them.
Surfers Paradise has a Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum and the Q Deck from where you can get a 360 degree view from the surf to the hinterland and beyond. It is also worth heading out to the rainforest for an experience of the raw nature and wilderness.
Shop ‘Til You Drop
Shopping is not one of most primary attractions of the Gold Coast. Cities like Melbourne and Sydney have a lot more to offer. Nevertheless, if there is a place worth shopping at, it is Surfers Paradise. They have designer labels to moderate brands and inexpensive stores as well.
Anything I Should Take With Me?
It is essential to carry sun block at all times because the scorching summer heat can damage the skin.
