Tourism Australia takes Facebook by storm
The Tourism Australia Facebook page is the most popular of its kind in the world – that is as a tourist destination site.
It seems things like photos of koala joeys and Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks have been a real hit with likes, comments and shares helping to tip the page over the two million mark – 2,079,904 at the time of writing.

The See Australia page was launched on Facebook in May 2008 to promote Australian holidays and grew by 855,000 new fans last year.
It currently has three times as many fans as its nearest rival, Las Vegas.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said digital marketing was a critical element in the ongoing successful promotion of Australia.
“Through Facebook we get real stories about what people are currently thinking about Australia which influences our marketing and makes the platform a primary interaction point with our global advocates,” he said.
The photo of the koala joey below received 14,000 likes and 5,000 shares in 24 hours alone.
To thank its animals for helping it attain record status, Tourism Australia gave them a special delivery and put together this video recording the animal’s exploring their gifts.
