ASIA is not short of private beach resorts, what with being home to some of the most picturesque shorelines in the world.
But among them all, Soneva Kiri in the Thai island of Koh Kood is declared one of the world’s best by CNN. Nestled between thick jungle foliage and the beach, the resort features 36 thatched villas made entirely out of locally sourced wood and recycled materials.
One of the most unique experiences at the five-star resort is the Cinema Paradiso where guests can watch classic films under the stars while nibbling on snacks and sipping on cocktails. The “open air” theatre is completely shrouded by the jungle, making it an experience like no other.
Those who are so inclined can also study the glittery patch of stars above at the in-house observatory. Astronomers often visit to study constellations, count the moons of Jupiter, and to peer at the halo of Saturn’s translucent ring.
Also on the list is InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, a hotel that has had its fair share of accolades. It’s also recently snagged the title of Best Resort Hotel in Asia-Pacific at the Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Awards.
The resort is designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, and its luxury villas are set along a lush mountainside overlooking a private beach of East Sea.
It’s no secret that the hotel is one of the most luxurious in Asia, and throughout the years, it’s hosted a slew of high-profile names including celebrities and politicians.
CNN also highlighted the resort’s Long Pool, an adults-only infinity pool that overlooks the entire resort and Son Tra Peninsula. Unsurprisingly, the pool has been the subject of many social media posts.
Qualia on Hamilton Island also made the list, and is described by CNN as “an escapist’s dream resort”. Most rooms come with private pools and sundecks, and one of the signature experiences at the hotel is the private beach drop-off service, where you’ll be whisked to a private island with a picnic lunch.
Meanwhile, The Mulia in Bali is one of the best resorts on the island, and looks out to the stunning Nusa Dua beachfront. One of the resort’s signature features is its outdoor pool flanked by two rows of Balinese stone maidens.
Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, Soneva Fushi in the Maldives, and El Nido Pangulasian Island in the Philippines make up the rest of the Asian entries in the list.
