MANHATTAN at Regent Singapore was named the best bar in Asia in the 2016 edition of the World’s 50 Best Bars. The bar was also hailed as 11th best in the world, up 24 spots from last year’s rankings.
The classic watering hole is a popular haunt for tourists and expats, and is reminiscent of a grand hotel bar, both modern and hinting of old-fashioned New York glamour.
Drinks are inspired by New York’s many boroughs, and are made up of both classic and contemporary concoctions. Think whisky with raspberry liqueur and housemade hibiscus syrup, or the zanier Calvados with vermouth, Angostura Bitters, jalapeño, cloves, coffee beans and salt.
Singapore’s 28 Hongkong Street also made the list at number 14 in the world. This West Coast-vibe bar is the kind of place where the ice is hand-cut, the mint organic, and the work that goes into each cocktail immense.
Operation Dagger is a newcomer in this year’s list at number 21, a mysterious nondescript bar that’s a hit with Singapore’s cool kids. One wouldn’t be surprised to encounter ingredients like bee pollen and Spanish ham in their drink.
Elsewhere in Asia, Speak Low in Shanghai, High Five in Tokyo, and Lobster Bar and Quinary in Hong Kong made appearances on the list.
New York and London dominated most of the top ten, with The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog snagging the title of the world’s best bar.
