AirAsia is heavily ‘influencing’ independent travelers in China
BUDGET airline AirAsia was named the most influential airline in China at the 2016 New Power of Travel Awards in Beijing last week.
A press statement released by the airline said: “The awards committee said AirAsia had influenced free and independent travelers in China with its young, passionate and creative brand image since entering the market.”
Meanwhile, the airline is focusing on pushing its content across Chinese social media sites as the country’s digital market is reliable on social media.
AirAsia North Asia President Kathleen Tan said, “China is an incredibly dynamic market and we want to deliver an even better travel experience to our fans in China. This includes information on where to find the best food, hidden gems and great travel destinations where amazing memories can be made.”
She added, “In line with this, we are working hard with our travel tourism partners and local governments to bring the world to China and vice versa.”
Alongside group tourism, Chinese independent travelers make up a large chunk of outbound tourists, and are continually looking for airline bargains.
In a Skift report, a trend towards independent travel is definitely on the rise without putting too much of a dent in group tours.
