In pictures: This rainforest retreat in Ubud is crowned the best hotel in Asia
IN its 15th annual Travellers’ Choice Awards, TripAdvisor has named Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the best hotel in Asia and second in the world after Aria Hotel Budapest by Library Hotel Collection.
Mandapa – which has an average nightly rate of US$510 – beat out 7,607 properties from 107 countries around the world to bag the title.
User reviews on the hotel listing indicated that it’s a popular choice for honeymoons and anniversaries. Staff were praised for being attentive and most guests felt “well taken care of” during their stay.
The hotel is located on a dramatic cliff 100 meters above the Ayung River, nestled in the Ubud forest, and surrounded by lush paddy fields. While nature is heavily emphasized, it’s also a resort that prides itself on luxury.
Most guests spend their time here practising yoga in the open pavilion, enjoying a good book in the library, riding a bicycle through the nearby villages, or doing absolutely nothing amidst the crisp jungle air.
The hotel’s general manager, Ana Gorjão Henriques, told The Jakarta Post that she had not been expecting the award while giving credit to the staff for the win.
She said that the attribution only made her and her staff want to scale greater heights in the future. “Perhaps, even to be the number one in the world,” she said.
Shinta Mani Resort in Siem Reap, Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa in Hanoi, and JA Manafaru in Manafaru Island, Maldives are some of the other resorts that performed well this year.
Here’s a glimpse of Mandapa, or pictorial proof that it’s something to look at.
