Hawaii Airlines flight took off in 2018 and landed in 2017

As Auckland is 23 hours ahead of Honolulu, the plane “time traveled” as it crossed the International Date Line.

DUE to a minor delay, passengers onboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight from New Zealand to Honolulu celebrated the start of 2018 twice.

According to Hawaii News Now, Hawaii Airlines Flight no. 446 took off from Auckland at 12.05 am on New Year’s Day and landed in Honolulu at 10.15 am on New Year’s Eve.

Flightradar24 noted the flight’s progression, saying “Time travel is possible” on its Twitter account.

The jump back into 2017 almost didn’t happen as the flight was scheduled to take off at 11.55 pm, Sunday. However, it left about 10 minutes late.

With Auckland 23 hours ahead of Honolulu, the flight “time travelled” as it crossed the International Date Line.

Reporter Sam Sweeney noticed the flight times and posted about it on Twitter, according to Fox 31 Denver.

“Because of an unexpected delay, Hawaiian Airlines flight 446 took off in 2018 and will land in 2017. #timetravel,” Sweeney wrote.

Other Twitter users also noted the rare occurrence.
