DURING AUTUMN, places appear more dreamlike and charming as magical colors paint the landscape.

With hues of orange and tinges of gold dotted with amber red, and as the cool year-end breeze sweep the leaves in the trees and lush bushes, the annual fall foliage is stunning.

It is during this period that curious travelers from all around the world flock to the best places to explore and enjoy the enchanting season. And unless if you’re there in person, standing in one of the best spots and taking in the views, it is hard to understand the magnitude of the love for autumn.

Asia is home to some of the best fall destinations – that is, if you know where to look.

South Korea: Namiseom Island

During autumn, the small, moon-shaped island in Chuncheon is a full-out celebration of these vivid seasonal hues.

Namiseom Island, popularly known to be the filming location of Winter Sonata, is home to giant pine trees that line the paths.

China: Jiuzhaigou

Located in the north of Sichuan Province, Jiuzhaigou County, previously known as Nanping County, is home to valleys and crystal clear gem-colored lakes.

A fairyland of breathtaking views, the national park is one of China’s most popular tourist attractions.

As the leaves change colors and provide a contrast to its mountainous backdrop, the view is astounding.

Inner Mongolia: Ejin Banner

Located in the westernmost part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Ejin Banner is a mysterious land with rarely seen Euphrates Poplar trees.

In fact, it has a total forest area of 300 square kilometers.

During autumn, the trees burst into the most vivid shades of yellow, brown and gold.

Japan: Kyoto

Most of Japan might be known for its sakura season, but autumn is just as beautiful, if not more.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take a trip to Kyoto and watch the city’s maple trees turn a glorious red.

Although Taiwan only has two obvious seasonal changes, nothing can be more ethereal that Taoyuan in autumn.

Deep into the season, the city’s maple trees look like a sea of burning flames because of the intense colors.

Drop by Shihmen Reservoir while you’re there as it will astound you with its lake and mountain views.
