Hotel Bougainvillea

Situated near the famous Anjuna Beach, Hotel Bougainvillea, also known as Granpa’s Inn, lies in a rural setting about 10 minutes from Anjuna, famed for its beach and weekly flea markets. Renovated from a 200 years old Portuguese-styled Goan House, which has a pleasant blend of old world charm with modern comforts and spacious gardens.  A perfect place for a peaceful and authentic Goan holiday.

Expect to pay between USD $15-100 per night. The rate includes continental breakfast.

A continental breakfast is included in the room price but other meals can be purchased at the onsite multi cuisine restaurant/bar. You can take meals candlelit by the pool or at a table on your own part of the terrace.

The Farias have their own farm and much of the food they serve comes from there – cashews, avocados, almonds, fruits, spices and even chicken.

All the rooms inside the charming villa are on ground level and even the basic rooms have a fridge, air conditioning, television, twin/double bed and en-suite facilities. There are three kinds of rooms and prices vary widely depending on the time of year. The cheapest time is from June to mid September. Prices are highest over Christmas and the New Year.

The most budget room is the Standard A/C that is priced from Rs. 850-3,800 (US $15-70 including taxes and breakfast). The suites are Rs. 1250-5050 (US $23-94) but the pick is without doubt the pool side one running from Rs. 1450-5250 (US$ 27-98). This has larger rooms and also a private outdoor shower.

Hotel Bougainvillea has its own swimming pool and snooker room if you don’t fancy heading into Anjuna for the day. If you are wanting to be more active Anjuna is the obvious place to go.

The famed flea markets and Saturday night Bazaar are not far from the hotel and well worth a visit to score a bargain, get some good food or simply enjoy the lovely beach fringed with coconut palms.

Hotel staff can also help you organize other sports activities like parasailing, bungee-jumping, go-karting, windsurfing and yoga.

This 200-year-old Portuguese-styled Goan house is still owned by descendants of the family that originally built it.

Lucindo and Bettina Faria have modernized it as much as possible in recent years but it still retains its original charm boasting the same terracotta tiles, stained-glass windows, central courtyard and open veranda it always has. The one storey hotel is cool and rustic and feels like a real home - Lucindo can actually fill you in on the history of the house if you like.

The rooms are well sized and cluster around the central courtyard. Each has a section of the verandah, bedecked with flowering plants, and a cheerful bedspread. Outside the gardens are spacious with plenty of birds and appealing lawns to relax on, or there’s a wonderful pool to lounge beside if you don’t feel like hitting the beach. It’s a wonderful place to come back to after a day out or to call home during your sojourn in Goa.

Customer Reviews

"I stayed here with my wife and toddler in march for 2 weeks. The owners are friendly and approachable. The Staff are friendly and well trained. The pool is fantastic. we stayed in one of the rooms by the pool and they have a little courtyard at the back which is very handy for kids to play safely. The rooms themselves are spotless and are cleaned daily. The outside shower is also a nice surprise. All in all we have no complaints about this hotel. The restaurant (Kenny s) has great food and kenny himself is an executive chef who has worked in canada for years, so his kitchen is top notch. To sum it up, its a family run hotel run very efficiently and granpa himself is a gem!" Grizley.
