In pictures: Singapore celebrates National Day with flashy acts

SINGAPORE marked its 52nd National Day on Aug 9 over a grand National Day Parade (NDP) at the Marina Bay floating platform with a 25,000-strong crowd.

The audience was entertained with flashy performances, including a drone formation against the Marina Bay skyline, marches by various uniformed groups, a parachute display by the Singapore Armed Forces Parachute Team the Red Lions, and of course, an elaborate fireworks display.

The drone routine especially wowed visitors who gushed and snapped away at the hundreds of colorfully lit drones in the night sky.

Other highlights included the salute to the national servicemen, an electric guitar solo by the “viral” Grandma Mary, an appearance by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and cameos by homegrown athletes Joseph Schooling and Yip Pin Xiu.
