ITB Asia to tackle future of travel during three-day event
ITB ASIA is undoubtedly the region’s biggest travel trade show, and its annual edition will take place in Singapore this year with the conference theme “The Future of Travel”.
This year, industry players, buyers, and members of the public can attend an extensive program of key presentations and discussions by industry heavyweights from the travel and tourism sector. This includes global brand names as well as promising travel start-ups.
Some of the areas that will be explored by the show include artificial intelligence and its impact on the industry: speakers who will address this in the introductory keynote speeches are Tony Menezes, vice president of industrial and distribution sectors at IBM Asia Pacific, and Rob Torres, managing director of advertising and marketing at Google.
The indisputable power of online travel agencies (OTAs) will also be covered by experts including Min Yoon, CEO of Tidesquare, Amit Taneja, chief revenue officer of Cleartrip, Jose Murta, global head of hospitality at trivago, and Ike Anand, vice president at Expedia.
Other trends that will be highlighted include opportunities in virtual reality and robotics represented in part by Savioke, a Silicon Valley start-up that makes autonomous indoor delivery robots.

With more millennials taking cruises, the show will feature a cruise panel for the first time with speakers including Christina Siaw, chief executive officer at Singapore Cruises Centre as well as representatives from SkySea Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, Princess Cruises, Carnival Asia, and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
As a bonus, representatives from Travel Wire Asia will lead a presentation titled “Influencing Connected Travellers – Social Content Formats and Digital Distribution” which will delve into how travel providers across the industry can increase their revenues by storytelling and digital engagement.
The talk will then touch on emerging digital platforms and how they can be used by various aspects of the industry, before concluding with how your brand’s digital footprint can be increased in new markets. Speakers at the panel are James Craven, managing director of Travel Wire Asia’s parent company, Hybrid, and Andrea Schuppien, regional manager at Travel Wire Asia.
ITB Asia 2017 will take place at Marina Bay Sands on Oct 25-27.
