A PICTURE is worth a thousand words, or so the saying goes. But pictures go beyond words – they can transport you to a place you have never even been before.
Instagram allows users to explore places they have never visited, and create a giddy excitement for adventurous future travel plans.
The photo-sharing platform is set to reach one billion users by the start of 2018, according to a report by Mediakix. But with 800 million monthly active users and a steady rate of 60 pictures a second (5.2 million per day) being uploaded, it can be difficult to know who to follow.
Travel Wire Asia has selected five creative, adventurous and truly wondrous travel Insta accounts we think you should be following.
Nick and Hannah from the account Salt in our Hair have a sturdy following of more than 95,000 and is it any wonder? The Dutch couple has been traveling the globe since May 2016, focusing on dreamy locations that grab their attention.
We asked them where their favorite place to photograph is: “Probably Indonesia. The combination of the local people, food and incredible scenery.”
Their key to getting the perfect shot is making sure you recognize yourself in the picture, injecting a little “living on the edge” feel and not being afraid to take lots of shots of the same thing to ensure you get the perfect one.
Chloe Ting is an Australian-based Gymshark Athlete, who combines her love of fitness and travel in her stunning account. With a healthy following of 252,000 admirers, her pictures help to boost awareness of hidden places, promote fitness and give women the power and confidence to create an incredible social media presence.
“During my travels, I prefer exploring offbeat tracks that are less popular and discovering new locations. I’m mostly attracted to peaceful and pristine locations out in nature, rather than in urban city areas,” she told Travel Wire Asia.
Chloe stresses that the perfect picture is one people can appreciate and which creates a conversation.
Louis is an intrepid explorer on a 90-day expedition across the globe. He is on a mission to make a documentary on global diversity.
As well as updating his Insta feed daily, Louis also does a brilliant of a job of making creative, insightful and fun vlogs.
His feed homes in on natural tones, with Louis capturing humanity in his snaps and revealing to his followers the humility that exists around the globe.
Alex Strohl is based in Whitefish, Montana, and tells stories through photography and film. The deep sultry tones that feature in almost every photo can make you feel quite alone and a little cold. But they have also the power to cast your mind to pure tranquillity, enabling you – if only for a moment – to forget the busy life you lead.
Chelsea Yamase’s feed makes you feel as though you are watching an interpretive dance, describing a journey through beautiful countries and cultures. Chelsea goes by a simple ethos: “Live simply, explore often, consume mindfully.”
She is currently based in Hawaii and having an epic adventure; from waterfalls and cliff edges to mountaintop camping and practising ballet while diving in crystal waters.
Her feed will make you want to quit your job, buy a straw hat and explore the world with your best friends and your own mind.
