IN AN UNEXPECTED turn of events, a cruise ship had to sail back to port after a fight broke out among passengers waiting to use the loo.

The brawl occurred as the cruise ship was pulling out of Sydney Harbour on Monday. The three-day “Comedy Cruise Gala” was bound for open Australian waters but had to steam back to dock after a woman and six men were detained by onboard after a fight spread through the ship.

The woman allegedly attacked a man with an empty wine bottle, while trying to protect her partner who was one of the men fighting.

With alcohol in the picture in some form or another, the P&O ship had no other choice but to finish the voyage early to ensure passenger safety.

“During the fight, a 37-year-old woman, who is the partner of one of the men, allegedly struck a 21-year-old man on the head with an empty wine bottle, causing a laceration,” New South Wales police said in a statement.

The six men and one woman were met by police at the port, however, only the woman who was wielding the empty wine bottle has been charged with reckless wounding and affray. The six men involved have been released without charge, pending further inquiries, according to ABC News.

“This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behavior that affects the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of other guests. While these occurrences are rare, we have no hesitation in taking strong action when necessary to adhere to this policy,” a P&O spokesman said in a written statement.

It appears reckless decisions that impact others journey’s aren’t specific just to cruising or Australia. Last week, an unidentified naked passenger locked himself in the bathroom onboard an Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle and forced the plane to turn around.

Due to the undressed passenger not following instructions from cabin crew, the plane was forced to fly back to Anchorage.

Thankfully, on this occasion, fellow passengers were understanding as one told the New York Post, “I’d rather go back to Anchorage than have something happen.”

In another bizarre traveling event, a woman in her 50s forced an Air China flight to turn back after she fainted just after take-off and claimed she was possessed.

According to reports, she demanded to see the flight crew and shouted: “I have to be in Chengdu. There are things possessing my body and you cannot find it by health checks.”

Toilet fights, getting naked in public and claiming to be possessed aren’t advisable while firmly on the ground, let alone while in the sky or at sea. However, it is reassuring to know that the staff around you are trained for these situations and will do everything possible to keep you safe.
