Survey: This is the most welcoming place in India
KERALA has topped the list as one of the most welcoming places in India.
This is according to digital travel platform Booking.com’s 2018 Guest Review Awards survey data. In particular, the five popular destinations in Kerala are Varkala, Cochin, Thekkady, Alleppey, and Munnar.
Said to be India’s most serenely beautiful state, Kerala is a palm-lined coastal strip located on India’s tropical Malabar Coast.
It boasts pristine white sand beaches and a network of shimmering backwaters, laden with spice and tea plantations up in the hills, an abundance of wildlife, and has nearly 600 kilometers of glorious Arabian Sea shoreline.
Unlike the frenzy of India’s major cities, Kerala offers the perfect escape for those who are seeking peace, quiet, and some soulsearching.
Thanks to its long coastline, Kerala has been exposed to many foreign influences thus it is rich in history, has developed a diverse but unique culture, and even has its own language – Malayalam.
On top of zoning in on the most welcoming places, Booking.com’s 2018 Guest Review Awards also granted 759,845 properties across 219 countries and territories an award. A total of 6,125 accommodation providers from India were recognized as a part of these awards.
The survey data showed that the most welcoming accommodation types in India are resorts (23 percent), homestay (20 percent), guest houses (12 percent), hotels (11 percent), and apartments (11 percent).
“No matter the type, the size or location of the property, what we see from our customers is that they value a human connection when they travel, whether it’s some extra attention to detail or a truly individualized approach to service,” said Ritu Mehrotra, Country Manager India, Sri Lanka & Maldives at Booking.com.
“With these awards, we celebrate and thank all of the amazing accommodation partners who create special travel experiences for our customers on a daily basis,” she added.
Based on the share of properties receiving an award in 2018, for the first time ever Booking.com reveals the most welcoming places on Earth according to customer reviews.
With the highest percentages of total eligible properties winning awards, India ranks as the 29th most welcoming country on the planet ahead of Switzerland (30th), China (40th) and Malaysia (45th)* Within India, the most welcoming destinations are Varkala (Kerala), Cochin (Kerala), and Jaisalmer (Rajasthan).
