This United Arab Emirates hub is getting its own resident DJs
THE glitzy United Arab Emirates city of Dubai is known for a score of things: tradition, culture, mega malls, themed attractions, luxurious hotels, and pristine beaches.
It also proudly boasts many of the world’s firsts including the world’s largest indoor ski center, the world’s biggest mall, the world’s tallest building (the Burj Khalifa), and the world’s tallest hotel (the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel), the world’s largest water screen projection, and the world’s busiest airport by international passenger traffic.
And now, its airport is tucking yet another world’s first feather in its cap.
Earlier this month, the Dubai International Airport (DXB) announced its long-term musicDXB partnership with music industry visionaries Olly Wood and Greg Stainer, making it the first-ever airport in the world to have resident DJs.
This will not only allow DXB to share its love of music and showcase up and coming talent with passing-through travelers but also enrich the overall airport customer experience.
“From chilled ambient beach vibes to the summer anthem that still makes you a smile a decade later, music influences our mood and even more so when we travel. Right now, an average one in five people are walking around the airport with headphones on, listening to music that comforts and soothes, motivates and inspires and sparks joy. You get those same feelings while traveling, so partnering with DXB seemed as natural as Mariah hitting a high note,” Woods commented.
The new roaming musicDXB stage will present free monthly concerts for travelers featuring an array of international and local artists. DJ duo Hollaphonic kicked off their residency over the weekend of April 6 and April 7 with a pair of two-hour sets.
This will be followed up by Dubai-based house DJ Scot Forshaw and Mark Shakedown, as well as Stephon Lamar and Alex Syps in weeks to come.
“Piano’s in baggage reclaim don’t cut it anymore. Our customers are well traveled, global citizens and expect more, and at DXB we are really making some bold steps to offer just that. Live performances by incredible singers from around the world that make you stop and take a moment, a DJ when you least expect – these are moments people will remember and share with their family and friends. These are the kind of moments we create at DXB,” Dubai Airports director of brand Matthew Horobin said.
Travelers, now would be a good time to put your headphones away as you roam DXB.
